Representative Amira Al-Adly, a member of the House of Representatives and founder of the Cairo Liberal Club, proposed amending the draft law submitted by the government by amending some provisions of the Income Tax Law promulgated by Law No. 91 of 2005.
The amendment by MP Amira Al-Adly includes exempting those with the minimum income from taxes, in order to reduce the burden on the citizen quickly and significantly, especially in light of the high rates of core inflation, which represents a large burden on citizens.
Representative Amira Al-Adly said during the plenary session in the House of Representatives to discuss the draft law, “In Fact, the tax exemption limit was increased by the decision of the President twice within 6 months, the first time by 36 thousand pounds and the second by 45 thousand pounds, as well as the minimum wage to 4 thousand pounds. However, the proposed law, despite the increase, only applies to those with limited income and those who receive the minimum wage, i.e. those who earn more than 3,750 pounds. He will pay a 10% tax in light of the difficult economic conditions, inflation, and high prices that are increasing day by day.”
She explained that the amendment she submitted aims to increase the tax exemption limit to 48 thousand pounds, with the zero tax being from 1 pound to 33 thousand pounds. “This is the simplest thing we can offer to the citizen who receives the minimum wage”.
She continued, “We are in difficult circumstances and inflation rates are increasing, so I propose a tax exemption that includes those with the minimum wage, and this is the least in light of the difficult circumstances we are living in.”
